Olive What I Do

Quotes

Every job is quoted individually, in writing, once I know what's involved.

How a quote works

  1. Get in touch. Call or email with a few details and some photos.
  2. I look at the job. Usually I can quote from your photos. If I'm not sure, I may need to visit to see it properly.
  3. You get a written quote. It sets out the work, the price and what's included, and when I'm available to do the work.
  4. We agree a date. If the tree is protected, the council paperwork comes first.

What a quote costs

  • Quote from photosFree
  • Visit to quote for a specific jobDepends on travel distance
  • Advice or consultation£25 per hour

A visit costs something for the time it takes, and how much depends on how far I have to travel. Once I have your address, I'll tell you the cost by phone or email before I come.

What to send

  • The address and postcode.
  • A few photos of the tree or hedge from different angles, including what's around it: fences, buildings, greenhouses, cars.
  • What you'd like done.
  • Whether there's side access, or whether everything would have to go through the house.
  • If you know it, whether the tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order or is in a conservation area.

What affects your quote

The examples on the Recent work page are a guide, not a fixed rate. These are the things that change a price:

  • Size and height of the tree or hedge.
  • Access and protecting the house. If there's no side access, the wood and branches have to be carried out through the house. Covering floors and doorways and keeping dust out is a lot of extra work, so the price depends on how much protection you want.
  • What's underneath. Where there's nothing to damage, branches can drop freely. Over fences, glasshouses, plants, cars or roofs, they have to be lowered slowly and with care, which takes longer.
  • Waste. How much there is to take away.
  • Protection. Whether the tree is protected. If it needs a council application, that is an extra cost.

Protected trees

Much of Southwest London is covered by Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas. If your tree is one of them, I can check and handle the council application for you.

Handling the application is an extra cost, and I show it separately in your quote so you can see exactly what you're paying for. It takes real time: assessing the tree, writing up the work, submitting it and answering the council's questions.
